Remember the Sylvan Scale Test car kit they have done a couple years ago?
It was lost on my workbench in a darker corner, half done (I started it in fall 2017 I believe). My 2019 resolution was to finish partially completed projects before starting newer ones. These are part of the deal, as I am now going forward with Intermountain cylindrical hopper kits.
The resin tank was better quality than I expected (cast resin can be porous sometimes and I feared orange peel finish once painted). I was pretty satisfied with the paint job.
The Sylvan kit used for 52284 has all parts included (even the decals), but I made an habit of maximizing the brass content of my models for both durability, and enhanced details, so I ended up rebuilding the frame, walkways, handrails, air system, coupler box, grab irons, and (I assume no longer functional) discharge hatch pivots. 52257 is a Undecorated Walthers scale test car which I also brass detailed, and replaced the kit ballast weight by a bigger and heavier lead piece. Both of which received prototype Kadees (#56 if I remember), and light weathering.
52257 is still missing the "maximum 30MPH" safety warning on the sign, but I will add it up the next time I make a full decal sheet.
