Hi All, I am most familiar with EMD locos, but have a U28B that I'm adding some details to. There is one part that I am having a hard time finding good photos of, or establishing exactly what it is. It's under the radiator on the right side, and appears to be some type of filler neck (water?). I have checked all of the online web sites for loco photos, gone through my book and magazine collection, etc. I can probably fudge it with a fuel filler neck but wondered if anyone here had any thoughts/advice. Photo below is about the best I could find, it's a U28CG but it looks the same on the U28B. Thanks in advance for any thoughts! Photo

Hi Never noticed this before either, but then Alcos are my preferred power. From the photo my first thought was water for the steam generator, but it's a long way from where you'd expect to find it. If it's on other U-boats as well, then it's likely to be associated with the radiator cooling water. Alco's had a water filler in the top of the hood for topping up the water expansion tank, so maybe it's something like that. In the photo it would appear to be similar to the fuel filler, but quite a bit smaller. The fuel filler from an N-Scale Altas C-628/630 could be just what you need. Cheers Steve

I would be inclined to think it was for the air compressor, possibly for adding oil to the compressor.
