I am finally moving forward with this project. I want to build four tank cars including those superb (from a weathering perspective) Procor rusty tanks. These will be a training for another tank car project I have in mind since several months: DUPX 8 axels whale tankers. I have cut to length and made seams on two of them already. I want to proceed by similar steps over the weeks as I will progress using similar material and processes. For those wondering, I will be using some pop can bottoms for the ends, but if some of you have suggestions for the Procor ends with a rounder end, please let me know if that can be found anywhere (Athearn, Walthers kits?). I'll be digging into my bulk brass drawer for K&S rods, angles, then plano photo etched walkways. Interesting soldering project ahead... Still, here are pictures of the prototypes: Stephane

Interesting project, I love the idea of using everyday items like that for kitbashing/scratch building. The weathering will be a challenge for sure, rusty cars like that are definitely something not my strong suit.
Looking forward to following this build.

I certainly will, soon. Long term project, and challenging. The ones I prefer.

Ha Bobby, congratulations again for the can tanker. Good to hear from you. Indeed, I'd like to take more experience through this project, and I happen to love tankers too, so a couple brass tanks in my fleet will be cool.
I still have copies of your blueprints of the DUPX rolled into a tube in my shop. That hobby is all about patience, and sometimes patience means having to wait until you feel ready to jump. I sure will post it on both forums: here for the making, and on the bucket for the weathering, as they all will be weathered.
Still, I need to finish my SD90MAC first...
Cheers, Stephane
