Hi guys, I recently wired up an Atlas QSI sound decoder thanks largely to NCS39D8 help. But I'm having a problem with The sound, as soon as I hook up the speaker and start the loco the sound comes on for 2 seconds locomotive lurches forward and led's come on then everything turns off and the whole process starts all over again endlessly. If I remove the speaker there are no problems. This also happens to the second identical decoder so I'm thinking it could be that I'm using a wrong type of a speaker. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What is the ohm rating of the speaker ? Mark. Hi Mark, Just minutes ago I got a reply from QSI Solutions and I think I know what you are thinking. I'm using the wrong speaker 8Ω, I should be using a 16Ω speaker I'm lucky I didn't blow the board.

Well, you knew where I was going - but the speaker can be either 8 or 16 ohms - see documentation .... sites.google.com/site/markgurries/home/dcc-tips-and-tricks/qsi-decoder-versionsI doubt your 8 ohm speaker is the problem, provided the speaker itself is good .... it wouldn't hurt to do an ohm reading on the speaker itself to ensure the coil winding haven't shorted, creating a much lower resistance. You tried a different decoder - did you try a different speaker ? Mark.

I assumed it would be an 8ohm speaker, well I was wrong. once I installed a 16ohm speaker both sound and control work great. I'm working on a pair of GP9RM's you can see my trend here dieseldetailer.proboards.com/thread/15649/kaslo-gp9rm
