I dug up a trio of Proto 2000 SD45's this afternoon and was trying to figure out if it is feasible to add dcc and sound to them and if they have the same cracked gear problem that the P2K geeps had. From the looks of things a lot of weight will need to be milled out and I would guess the whole unit would need to be rewired. Anyone have input on what my options are?

Your best option is to sell them to me As far as I know, the cracked gear affliction did not affect the SD series, except perhaps the SD7/9. With installing sound, use sugar cube speakers to minimize space needs. Otherwise have fun milling space.

Looking at the cost of components vs rtr's with dcc/sound has me second guessing this project. Either way they will need paint but cost to $ makes me wonder which is more feasible.

I've been looking at the cost again today and I think I will shelve these three units for now. I came across a few more economical options that I am considering in the RTR department and stripping them and adding a few minor details will put me at less money than the protos.
