Hello
As someone who is a fan of both The Virginian (VGN) and The Pittsburgh and West Virginia (P&WV), I have become a fan of Fairbanks Morse diesel locomotives. While planning my own prototype based freelanced railroad, The Roanoke Blue Ridge and Western (RBR&W), I made sure to include some examples of FM motive power.
However, there aren't many Fairbanks Morse locomotive models available on the model market. One of these few available models is the Bachmann H-16-44 in the phase 3 carbody (Atlas makes a phase 1 carbody model with both AAR and C-Liner trucks). Although this model isn't bad, it does have its short comings. This includes the headlight housings, number boards, radiator section, and handrails (not to mention the noise from the drive).
Is there a way to easily upgrade this locomotive model from Bachmann without having to kitbash an H-16-44 from an H-24-66 (Trainmaster)? If someone has upgraded one of these locomotives, what was done to improve the appearance?
