I have a Shapeways printed model that needs some clean up to get rid of some layering on the sides. I'm probably opening a can of worms, but what is the best sandable primer you have used? I've asked some friends, and gotten anything from Walmart automotive primer to Tamiya or Mr Surfacer from Gunze, but none have actually used them for anything more than a base coat. I'm hoping to kill two birds with one stone, get something that will allow the minor bodywork and be a good base for paint.

Mr Surfacer 500 is uber thick and needs to be cut with lacquer thinner. The higher the number, the more they cut it with thinner. Buy the 500, it will go further. If you are just cleaning up the banding lines it will work. I've used it on a basic SW slug body with no surface details and it works, cuz I hosed it on very thick. With any rivet detail, this won't work.

Thanks! I don't think it'll take more than two or possibly three thin coats, but for this experiment I wanted to make life easy if possible. There's no rivet detail, just some door latches and hinges to work around but nothing huge.
