Hello,
My friend would like for me install a soundtraxx keep alive in a BLI steam engine that has QSI Paragon 2 sound in it. Is it possible for me to install it? If so, where does it get soldered?
Thank You,
David

Paragon 2 isn't QSI...
As far as where one would install it, I can't find sountraxx's directions for the thing.

Could TCS possibly carry some info, as to where they connect their KeepAlive Caps? Might be helpful for the SoundTraxx

Thank You, David There is a goldmine of info here; www.members.optusnet.com.au/mainnorth/alive.htmHe describes how to find the connections on any decoder. I'm starting to make my own keep alives, for about 10-15% of retail price. Dan M.

It has directions for connecting a capacitor to boards not shown. Specifically for finding the negative connection.

Basically, the positive lead attaches to the blue 12v+ 'common' output....
The negative lead is always the trick one. It MUST go to a 12v- output... but CAN'T be the black wire (left rail, neg. input, from the track)
If your decoder has a capacitor attached, it's VERY tempting to just wire the Keep-Alive to the capacitor wires. DON'T! All that will do, is extend the sounds over dead spots - and not affect the motor & lights at ALL...
That Keep-Alive website does a good job of pointing out the 12v- output points on various decoders. You need to find the counterpart on the QSI decoder.
IMHO, the TCS Keep-Alive unit is superior to the others. The Soundtraxx unit has a slight voltage drop, causing a temporary slowdown of the loco. I've heard nothing about the Digitrax version.

Does yours look anything like Quantum Revolution?? If so, then the connections would go to these... This is Marcus' basic guidelines from his site. ~ Carmine

Tha Paragon 2 decoder is Broadway's own decoder, not Soundtraxx.
