Does anyone know of/can point me in the direction of a good resource for tank cars?
Things I'd like to know are what types were common in what eras, how do you identify what they carry or what they can carry?
Being in the UK acquiring books is difficult so online sources would be preferred
Your assistance would be greatly received!
Regards

Look at GATX.com website. It shows various styles of modern tank cars and the types of service they were built for.
Also do a web search for "Field Guide to Tank Cars - BNSFHazmat". This is a PDF document that shows details of modern tank cars.

For 50's and 60's tanks, you may have to look for a Car Builder's Cyclopedia. Some of the bigger libraries and mechanical engineering colleges may be able to help.
