Excellent looking models! How did you modify the raised ends of the handrails on the end-platforms? I need to do something similar on a P2K GP-9 I have. Did you use wire handrails, or did you use plastic? I'd love to learn how!

Hi Guys, THANKS for the compliments!!
It was a sweet deal, as I got the loco at a swap meet for 25, and added some parts to it. Imagine my surprise when I opened it up, and found a nice new decoder already inside...
It was missing the end railings, and I made the railings, by using an extra set of Atlas railing I had on hand. To make the raised part, I carefully clipped the horizontal railing after the first stanchion on each side. Using the center part, I clipped off the stanchion about halfway up, and then again under the T, on the center stachions. Using a small drill, I drilled out the T's to accept .015" brass wire. I bent the S shape, and tested the fit, and once I had the shape/length figured out, I made another copy of it for the other side. I reassembled everything onto the frame, and checked to see how much I would have to extend the vertical post of the stanchions in the center. Here I used .010" wire, because the round section of the stanchion is pretty small, and drilling it out, I could only go in about .025" safely. Once I had then post extensions figured for length, I cut them, and glued them all together using hi-tech glue (Cpox/Cyanopoxy/Tech-Bond, there all the same stuff...)
Once assemebled, then I painted them. Using several coats of paint on the extensions on the stachion posts to build up the diameter to match the rest of the post.
I think they turned out very well, but I also seem to recall that P2K offeres similar handrails on the SWsomething or other. Problem, is, I think Walthers is a royal pain in the A$$ to deal with in ordering parts, so it was easier to roll my own...

Very Nice Brian,
That one with the heavy weathering came out sweet! I have 2 of those (with the all metal base) that I found in bad shape for 5 bucks each. I didn't do the job you did on them, but they look ok. I'm now inspired to go back and actually put mu hoses ect. on them. I didn't do that because the pilots are metal, but I think I can handle it.

Brian,
I just picked up 5705, what detail parts did you use? Airhorn, spark arrestors, etc.....
