Hello again guys, I went looking around on the web as well as doing a search here and unless I have really lost my touch with a computer I must be missing something. I am struggling trying to find good info on this next area of interest for the SD90MAc. I found a good deal on the A-Line brass etched step set for my RPP unit but I have never installed these on any locomotive. I am trying to up scale this build to a little higher level of detail but at the same time I do not want to screw it up. I got a super deal on this one considering there is another one on Ebay right now that the asking price is (no kidding) $70.00 more than I paid for mine including the shipping. There is no difference in the two of them what so ever other than the price tag so the last thing I want to do is mess this one up.
What is the easiest and cleanest way to remove the plastic steps so I can add the new etched ones ? Also I am finding out that no matter how careful I am and even using a tooth pick to apply Super Glue or regular model glue I always seem to get too much on and you can see where I put it. I don't understand how you guys get stuff on your builds so cleanly and perfectly. What am I doing wrong? Is it the glue I am using? Is there one out there with a special tip that wont clog up that I should be using for this type of work? I have built many models in my time and some have come out real nice others not so great but this crap with the glue now is starting to make me think this is why so many people have gone to the RTR products. All of my locomotives are shelf models and do to the fact I don't have a layout as well as space limitations this will most likely be the last unit I buy and I would like to make it a bit nicer than my others which are mostly box stock. I have others that are started and if this one works out well with some small detailing using after market parts I may continue it into the others that need finishing.
Are there any videos out there that show how to do this clean type of work you guys do that I just cant find? I have come up empty on YouTube and I am not subscribing to one that I found on line for $44.00 a month for how to videos that just wont be practical for me. The only reason I tore down the Bachmann DD40AX was because it had seen it's better days after having it since it was released and it had been moved around a lot plus coming right out of the box it wasn't right. However I feel all the work I put into it made a big improvement but it also took many years of thinking about doing that and coming back to this site for inspiration to get me to finally dive into it. I consider my stuff to be respectable but I would like to step it up a bit for the SD90MAc but also stay within my abilities.
Okay that is enough gibberish I think you all get the idea so what can you guys suggest so I don't trash this unit.

When applying CA, I use a needle with the point stuck in a dowel and the top part of the eye cut off. It looks like a two-prong fork. Put a drop of CA in a bottle cap, dip the "fork" in the CA and apply to the joint.
To replace plastic steps, I cut them off with flush cutters, but leave a small ledge on either side of the step well. That gives me something to attach the PE steps in place.
