Yeah, I'm going to mill the fuel tank area into a size that will fit inside of an RSC-13 tank.

Frame is milled. A slow process but the motor from an Atlas RS-11 fit like a glove after shaving off the sides of the motor mounts. The Kato RSC truck towers also fit after a minor bit of jigging. As evident in the photo, I bent the rear end of the frame. The other side is true again but apparently I didn't check the other side.

Chris popped by the house after supper tonight with a brilliant order from Shapeways - including some of the nicest models/parts I've ever seen - everything from Flexicoil A-1-A sideframes and MLW hood ends in HO to N scale CN Transfer Vans, CP wood sheathed cabooses and working N Scale Flexicoil B-B trucks. In that order were the hood ends I was anxiously awaiting to get me one step closer to having what I think is the first model of an RSC-13 in any scale. With the hood ends on, and unpainted sideframes placed underneath, this model is really starting to conjure up images of branchline railroading at its finest.

Mostly painted now and some decal work started. Still needs end grabs, among other things.

Very, very nice! Printing makes it so much simpler, doesn't it?

Very, very nice! Printing makes it so much simpler, doesn't it? You're telling me! I'm not a huge RSC-13 fan, I'm more doing it because I can and to cater to the masses. I'm looking ahead to this winter when I'm going to do four RS-18's and three RSC-14's with the rapid prototype truck sideframes (B-B and A-1-A) and the hood ends.

So now that you're going to retire you can join Chris and the rest of us on the Facebook world? It's possible, Taylor- I'm not a big fan of FB but it has uses, and I won't need to worry about my security clearance any more. Steve

And the prototype is complete. Unfortunately, I simply ran out of time to finish 1709 in time for the Truro (NS) show this weekend. I'm still surprised I was able to get this done in slightly over two weeks, given that we're in the extended fly fishing season here as well. There's always next year I guess...
