I made a ex LTV RS11 back in high school, this was my first kitbashed loco. I started by using an old Atlas RS11 shell chopped the nose but kept the brake wheel housing, just like the real RS11. This was not the ideal way, since each cut was awkward and fragile. On the real LTV RS11's you can see the weld seems. THe cab windows were much harder to figure out. I choose to use a clear piece of styrene, looks okay, but in the future I would use styrene and cut the windows. I did not add the bulges(extra wide door opeings for LTV's belt packed operators) on the door sides. THe detailing on the front was a SW headlight(DA parts) and Bethlehem Car Works RS3 marker lights cut to size. Not the most detailed locomotive I ever did, but it was fun.

Thanks for the compliments everyone! cnj1524- I used Prime Mover's for the M&E lettering. For the numbers I used Microscale Yellow Railroad Gothic #90106. The diamond heralds were a little trickier, though. Since Prime Movers are clear in the circle area, I had to use red trim film to cover behind the open circle. The red block was actually hand painted with yellow trim film around it. The chevrons were from Micro's NYSW set. I actually got a chance to ride in it a while back, the Nathan single chime M's create such a powerful "get out of the way" sound.

The Kaslo kit is very different from the home built Erie Mining nose and cab. The Kaslo kit does not contain a full cab, only the front cab face, which is incorrect for the Erie model. As suggested before, chopping a high nose and using styrene seem slike the way to go with this build. -Trevor

Hi I'm still waiting for my N-scale decals to get printed, but here is my effort at the same unit. I used a Dash-8 cab front for the 2 centre front windows. The unpainted photo shows some of the added bits. I had a paint problem on the nose, as shown in the third pic. All sorted now and looking good. Awaiting the decals before adding all the grabs. Hmm. These all look familiar..... Kind of like the 7205 that I've spent the last week working on. ;D Here's closeups of that cab extension (identical front and rear of the cab): For anyone that's interested in doing one of these locomotives, let me know within the next week (this week is my last week at the M&E) if you want me to get any more detail shots. It will be sitting in the yard all week, so I'll have full access to it inside and out. I can even measure the front windows if you want. Just let me know.

Hi Rudy I'd be interested in any roof shots if possible, and a close up of the engineer's side window area. Looks like a winter window or something may have been installed at one time.
Where has the 7205, and for that matter the 7210 been hiding recently? Haven't noticed them in recent photos.
Sorry you're leaving the M&E, you've been a good source of info. Thanks Steve Displaced M&E fan.

Thanks Steve Displaced M&E fan. I'll try to get you some pictures on Monday. I have no idea where 7205 has been hiding, but we're working on fixing her up and getting her running. Plans are to fire her up this coming week for the first time in a few years. She might get sent down to Bayway, or she might stay in Morristown and we'll send 19 down to Bayway... nobody really knows. 7210 has been sold to the Northampton Development Corporation Railroad (NDC) based out of Bath, PA.... which is ironically only 10 minutes from where I go to school: She's in the good company of an ex-CR, ex-CNJ RS-3M and an ex-MONON C420. Also, I'm not entirely leaving the M&E all together. I'm going to continue doing some work for RRPX on the weekends during the school year, so I'll still be around the shop somewhat to get detail pictures of locomotives.

Well, I didn't climb up on the roof today (since it was raining and alarmingly slippery), but I did manage to grab a whole bunch of detail photos for you. Here's that window: I compiled an album of all of the detail pictures that I took of this locomotive: s971.photobucket.com/albums/ae196/therudycometh4/RS11%207205/ You can search through it at your leisure. I labeled all of the pictures that weren't clear as to what they were. I'll try to get up on the roof for you tomorrow, provided it's not raining (i.e. it's actually safe for me to be up there).

Hi Rudy Wow, great photos. This is exactly what I needed before I built the 7215. I'll have a look at them again later. It's lunchtime at work on Tuesday here at the moment.
7215 was the odd one out of the EMC RS-11's. Like 7216, it came 2nd-hand from BN, but 7215 had dynamic brakes. As well as getting the nose job EMC removed the brakes, which is why it's the only one with 5 car body filters on the hood.
Say Hi to Steve Friedland for me. He's probably the only one there that may remember me.
Thanks again for the awesome pics. Cheers Steve Keeping Alcos alive in New Zealand

The roof shots I took today are uploading to the same album as I type this, so they should be available for viewing momentarily.

Once again, thanks Rudy. The photos are great. I also had a look at some of your model work, you are indeed very talented. There are a couple of small changes I will make to the 7215, based on the photos of the 7205, before I decal it.
Don't want to freak you out again, but while it's the early hours of Wednesday for you, I'm off to bed soon on Wednesday night. The international date line makes New Zealand the first big country to see each new day, about 19 hours before your EST.
Cheers Steve
