The SOU one's for Jim S, the guy that does my freight car weathering, and I did the LTEX SDs for. That will be my only USAF voodoo, it's the diecast (RTR haha) one, but me, forever never being happy with RTR, had to carefully wet sand off the stars and bars and reapply a larger decal cuz the manufacturer goofed with one that was too small. So it's not just a problem isolated to RR models! I have 4 of the Revell 1/72 voodoo kits, and an equal amount of the awesome Leading Edge CAF decals...stay tuned! I just have to clear some RR models off the desk....honestly, that's the reason....

Progress! Getting it ready for decals (testing of the colours of the New CN decal set) I love the MM flat black paint! Very chalky!

Have you ever tried MM aircraft interior black?
I had been using their semigloss, but I never tried flat black, until a friend suggested aircraft interior black.

Nice! I don't know what it is, but there's just something that really looks right about the Front Range GPs, once you fix the errors. I still can't decide if I like them better than Proto or not, since those have their own issues.

Fantastic build! Also, having never built one, you've convinced me to try a Front Range Geep! The "teeny tank" came out great also!

So, I honestly though my favourite CN prototype was the SD40 with the cool snowshields and porches, but as it turns out I guess I subconsciously like the venerable GP9s. Hmmm....
Most of these (4507, 4512 and 4155) are those first run P2K GP18s in factory paint with those bogus 4346 numbers on the cab. They've been modified with proper numbers and fan arrangements. (I got lazy with 4155 and picked a rare 48" vers with blombergs) 4000 is a Kaslo on a P2k frame with (finally) the proper sideframes with late brake rigging, found from a P2k BL2 if you believe it! 4524 is a Bachmann GP7. The real 4524 was GP9 in a wreck and received a GP7 hood. It was probably my favourite build of the group. 4611 is a funny one. Someone on the Detailer here was about to chop this body up to make an ATSF CF7. I IM'ed him and said WHOA there compadre! We agreed to exchange an N&W GP9 shell instead and she was saved from the scrapper. This paint scheme was pretty rare from P2k (Hobbycraft actually) and while I already had a full P2k NAR unit in my stash, I didn't want to fark with it because it was complete and would have been sacrilegious to black out the logos. I actually traded the full NAR one for 4155 here and an undec C424 as a trade. 4343 was one of the older ones in this collection. I built it maybe 20 years ago. Its a (very hard to get at the time) front range with the trucks converted to flexicoils. It has its problems detailwise but I think the old girl still holds her own. 4111 is the one from this thread as you know. I still need to do handrails...my bane! I think I have one left to do, 4568 in the noodle scheme. I always wanted to do the plausible impossible and couple 4000 to itself.

Have you ever tried MM aircraft interior black? I had been using their semigloss, but I never tried flat black, until a friend suggested aircraft interior black. Actually Taylor, I just realized that I have a bottle of AC interior black. I used it today to blank out some reporting marks. It reminds me of Floquil engine black, without the aftershakes. (I just realized it took me exactly a year to reply to your question....epic fail!!!)

That's funny, I noticed some activity on the thread so I started at the top of the page and started scrolling through. When I got to the post about the paint I thought, "that's odd of him not to reply for so long.....". No joke Its a nice paint. Seems to have a bit of a blue tinge to it like a weathered black. Its all I use now for CN.

Interesting "snow baffles" on 4512. Had to do some searching to figure out what they were. How many CN locos got that treatment, or was 4512 the only one?

There weren't many, maybe half a dozen. 4511, 12, 13 and 14 had them. 4518, and 4530 too, from what I can find in my photo collection. They were used mainly in southern Ontario and found their assignments in and out of the Stratford snowbelt area. I honestly think there were only 4 of them initially, and 4518 and 4530 got their set from one of the other 4 units. 4513 was destroyed in a wreck with hers still attached. Its weird though, one of my favourite units was 4524 which was Stratford-assigned and used on the plows quite a bit in the early 80's had absolutely no winterization at all. CN also had F7s and RS18s with similar hoods.
