Well, I started the SD15 today. I had to change having the long porch on the rear because of interference with the ATLAS geartower. So I comprimised and added two doors to each side of the locomotive from a donor SD-35 hood. The locomotive looks pretty good so far in mockup. I will be installing a Cannon Dash 2 cab and battery boxes. I have tons of high noses to use. I'll try to take a picture of my progress tomorrow.

Will do Anthony. I put the Canon battery boxes and cab on it today. I've got some trimming and grinding to do. The Canon battery box on the engineer's side isn't as long as the ATLAS box was, so I'll have to grind or cut down the protruding part of the frame before I can do anything more to the body because of fittment problems.

Hey Randy, Looks like a fun model, but I was thinking, on most SD units, the clean air room is larger than what the GP had, and maybe this would be the space you need to make the truck towers fit? I know you already hacked up the shell, but it's never too late:-)

I had to use CA to mount the long hood because the Smokey Valley hood really isn't plastic, so it's there to stay now. Thanks for the idea though.

Wow that looks sweet. Great job. Is the Smokey Valley parts easy to put together? It looks like it all fits pretty good together.

They go together pretty easy, but model glue won't hold the parts. I used S&S SD40T-2 photo etched grills in the rear.

I had to fire up the Dremel and cut some of the frame back today. The shell sits down square now and the high hood is on. I forgot how hot the Dremel makes pieces of metal. The part I cut off fell down into my crotch, and for a few seconds I did the hoochie coochie dance.

Ouch! Never fun when that happens. Lookin good so far Randy. How much are you shortening the fuel tank to get the trucks to clear? I would imagine youll end up with a rather short tank.

I'm leaving the frame as is. It's just an elongated GP15 long hood on an SD-35 walkway. I got more done last night, I removed the Dust Bin top and made it thicker, then added a Cannon & Co hatch. I've got to take some pics.

I know it is to late. Instead of adding the two extra engine room doors, I would think it might have been best to extend the length of the clean air room like on the GP39-2.

A high snoot would give it an RSD15 look of sorts.

Looks good Randy. What did you use to open up the classification lights on the short hood?

Question: Shouldn't this be just an SD15, or SD15-1? The "T" in "GP15T" designated a turbo-equipped loco, and since this does not have a turbo…
Regardless of the name, this is turning into quite an interesting model!
