That really came out nice. If you like sound, a Tsunami would be a fun thing to have with that one! If you have decoder pro, you can program it so the engine revs up before the loco moves.

Thanks for the tip! I actually have a Tsunami decoder sitting on my bench waiting to go into this build. I figured that a build like this absolutely has to have sound.

wow! Almost done. That really came out nice. Does that blower box (I don't know what it's called) that goes up and over down the other side come with the kit? Are you going to weather any of these or leave them in that just painted last week look. I did that with 2 of my club locos since I used Scalecoat and they came out with that glaze I just didn't want to do anything else to them. lol

I plan on weathering the GP8, as I intend to regularly use it on my layout (if/when it is ever built). The reference Alcos I posted earlier in the thread belong to another club member and I don't know if those will ever be weathered. Eventually I plan on weathering just about every piece of equipment I have, if I ever learn how lol.

Chirs,
That's a killer build! You will have to bring that up for your next ops session visit.

Good looking GP8. Questions: How many coats of primer and how did you apply it? The handrails are great and you bent the wire yourself? Starting a GP7 high hood that needs alot oif work. RJ

The less coats of paint overall the better, too many hides the fine molded on details. I usually only try to do one or at most two coats of primer, and two to three coats max of the main colors.
Excellent build! It'll look great switching cars around the paper mill you have.

Man, that looks great! Super job! Thanks, ranchwagon. I've been picking away at this model over past few months so I need to post some updated pics, hopefully sometime next week.

So this build suffered an ignoble end this weekend at the hands of my yellow lab and the damage is too great to repair. I believe I can salvage most of the aftermarket detail parts that were added, and when I can get ahold of another shell (next go around I am planning on a pair) I will start again.

Make it a load for a flat car. That's a good idea. The worst part of the damage was the end of the long hood was sheared off of the rest of the shell. I'm trying to piece it back together, and I might actually be successful at it. I think at this point I've gotten it repaired enough to be a flat car load, but I am going to shoot for a full repair.

What a sad end..... It was really looking great, a couple of years ago. The only question I would have had, and TRUST me, I'm NO rivet counter.... Looking at the model, a fine casting, I wondered. It was supposed to be a rebuild, but had Poling Pockets in the stairwells. I may have removed them, unless your Railroad STILL shoved cars from side tracks. ~ Carmine

All the pieces are in the box still. I might attempt to piece it together, when I have the chance.

That's good. It was looking like a really nice build!! Maybe you could at least salvage the best bits into another build.....
