Hi The weekend is over here in NZ. Actually managed some modelling. Started Western New York & Pennsylvania 630. She's ex CP Rail C-630M 4500. Still working on the rebuilt air intakes. Need to install 2 paper filters in each of the 4 openings. The Briggs filters I have left over should work. The new roof walkway is from 6Axlepwr. Cheers Steve

Hi Managed a little more time on my C-630M. I used some Briggs air filters to replace the standard central air intakes. The concept was good, but the execution was a little rough. Learning as I progress, so the other side will be better. Another, and somewhat easier improvement for the Atlas Alcos is to add a full width radiator with a see through cat walk. Using parts from 2 Atlas radiators, cut to fit as one continuous radiator, as shown in these photos. A section of almost any etched cat walk will make a huge difference when added. What the finished model should look like, with or without Laura on the front. Cheers Steve

Steve,
Just came across this build. Your work in N scale is very impressive. Its great to see great Alco models being scratch built in N. True inspiration! Please keep us posted on the progress.

Thanks guys. Did some more work on it today, but I don't get much time for modelling at the moment. So many half finished Alco/MLWs, and still some I want to start!
To me the Centuries are the best looking diesels out there. They sound awesome too. Cheers Steve

Hi As usual, not much time for modeling for a while, but I have tried to solve the Dofasco truck problem. The Briggs ones look good, but I suck at building them. MbE are just a stick on frame, which isn't bad, but doesn't align axles with journals. So, I've looked at another compromise, the Atlas C40-8 trucks, which fit the C-630 chassis and can be altered to look like a stretched MLW truck. We'll see how they look after I rework them. Here's how they look now. I've put the same chassis under my HR-616, just to see if it'll fit, and yes it did. I'll post that separately. Cheers Steve

What's the story on that high hood unit behind it?

Hi Randy I placed the high hood unit there to compare ride heights, in case the truck swap altered things too much.
It is, or will be CNW 6724, a high hood ex-N&W C-628, complete with Zito yellow paint. The cab and hood are made by Mark4, in a 3D printing process light years ahead of Shapeways. Time permitting, it will be finished around 2018!!!! Cheers Steve

As for the trucks, have you considered using trucks off a Uboat? I think the U23/30C trucks might be a closer match...

I did consider other 6 axle U-boats, but that would mean Kato and the potential for having to widen the shell, as I did when I made my first C-636. I do have a couple of Kato C-30-7s, but to be honest I didn't check the frame width. May go and do that tonight. Thanks for the thought. Cheers Steve

My WNY&P C-630M has a new stack, radiator walkway and some Archer louvres for the engine air intakes. Still trying to Dofascorise the GE trucks, not sure if it's a happening thing. Cheers Steve

Wow, an impressive N scale build for sure. I'd have a hard time doing some of that detail work in HO scale!
What's wrong with the trucks, I'm guessing something obvious?

Hi Here is the latest update, just a couple of minor things to tidy up before she's off to the paint booth. Just the ongoing truck issues to resolve. May yet use the set of Briggs Dofasco trucks I have. There seems to be an issue with one of the fuel fillers, it's on it's side, not sure how that happened. Cheers Steve

You make n scale look good, I'll bet it's a job bending railings for them.

Sure is. It was started by a guy in Hungary as a UP version. I will one day finish up as a former UP unit in MLW lease fleet colours. Need to sort a couple of issues and add d'brakes first. Cheers Steve
