so the phII cab isn't a whole cab, just a resin nose replacement?

No it's a full cab... Looks like he graphed the nose onto an Athearn cab

Sorry for the delay guys. Yes, I do love twins (and sometimes triplets), LOL. I figure that if I'm going to take the time to research a project, I might as well make a few of each at a time. As far as the cab, yes it comes as a complete cab when ordered. I just find that the details on the resin cab are not as crisp as I would like. So, i just graphed the nose from the resin cab onto the Athearn cab as Steve pointed out. Alittle bit more work but the end result is nice.

I love the flared -70s but not so much the newer versions of the EMD radiators, except on rebuilt units.

Looking good so far.
I have two questions: Are the radiator screens part of the DLH kit? They look like C&C grills that have been cut up and shortened to fit.
Secondly; Why do UP SD70M's have flared radiators and standard cabs but NS SD70M's (except for the first ten) have flared radiators and PhII cabs?

The screens are Cannon & Co. that can be ordered from DLH with the flared radiator. While the screens weren't shortened, they did have to undergo some modifications to make them closer to NS spec. since no one makes a true and correct screen for the NS 70Ms (like removing the two center most ribs of the screen).
And as far as the UP vs. NS 70s, you aren't the only one who has wondered that exact same thing. As a fellow NS modeler, you can probably agree that NS and its different upgrades, rebuilds, specifications, etc. do a darn good job of making themselves hard to keep pace with in the modeling world. If you aren't a member, I urge you to take a peek and join the "Norfolk Southern Model Railroading" group on Facebook. Its a closed group but once you request to join, you will see another guy who has SD70M project he just started. Heck, you might already be a member. Its hard t keep track of who's who between all the forums and Facebook pages/groups that have popped up.

I'll be sure to oook that group up, sounds like my kinda place.
Your right NS is hard to keep up with but given that variety is the spice ogmf life I think that's what makes them so appealing.

Just wondering what color paint that is for the dirt and grime down the sides and the fuel tank. Thanks Alan

The colors are as follows: Floquil Rail Brown & Dust. Once that was given some time to dry, I lightly hit the trucks & tank with grimy black. After that, I used various powders to give ti some depth before it was all sealed with dull cute
