Been awhile since I have been on this board, but I am having some trouble locating a part for a project. I am currently working on superdetailing a Atlas/Kato driven RS-3, Pennsylvania #8856. I have bought 95% of the detail parts (following a project in the June 1996 "Model Railroading" Magazine). However, they list a "Valley Associates #1006- Cast pewter fuel, air tanks, frame". I cannot locate a parts manufacturer under that name. The article says they are located in Muncy, PA. Does anyone know if they are still in business, or anyone that makes a detailed frame that fits the Atlas frame that has the steam generator tanks and looks correct for a dual service PRR RS-3?

James, I tried searching a couple of different names as well as the name you posted with no success. It's quite possible that some other company absorbed them since '96. I know that Bowser bought some other lines. If you know what the part should look like, I would recommend searching some of the other known suppliers - Bowser, Cal Scale, Detail Associates, Details West - all of these have catalogues online which show at least a line drawing of the parts.
Good luck and keep us posted on the build. There is a strong following of anything Alco here!

My personal pet peeve - companies that don't show photos or illustrations of the detail part they are trying to sell....UGH!

Thanks, I checked the major companies and bought all the listed supplies from Custom Finishing and Bowser thru dealers on EBay. However, cannot find any of the water tanks, so I might just have to leave them off the completed model.

I have never used them but I know there is Tiger Valley? Don't they make ALCO parts? Just speculation.

James, I tried to get in touch with Valley Associates over 10 years ago without any luck. I vaguely recall that Jim Six mentioned that the manufacturer had ceased operations relatively soon after the article was first published.
Valley Associates supposedly made a RS-3 frame that had the correct wheelbase for yellow box Atlas RS-3 & RS-11, and didn't have such as large "fuel tank" section underneath. But I never get one, and now it's redundant.
Tiger Valley never made a frame for Alcos that could be used with conventional drive components, only their "tank" drive.
