hello everyone just thought I would share with you one of my projects I'm working on. This is a kitbash of Atlas rs3 frame and parts and a Stewart rs3 shell. Hope you guys like it! suggestions are welcome
I started by modifying the Stewart rs3 running boards. I ground down the inner lip that goes all around the opening so that the shell would sit flat on the atlas frame.
next I modified the atlas frame. This is an old atlas frame so the procedure for a newer one would be different. The yellow arow indicates where I ground 1/8" from the top of the coupler nub. The green arow show where the frame was cut back to fit between the Stewart rs3 coupler mounting blocks.
the next picture shows the marriage of the atlas frame and Stewart rs3
running boards. i had to add styrene to the coupler mounting block for
it to be flush with the nub(don't know what else to call it) on the
atlas frame.
Thee next pictures are of the construction of the rs3 shell.
Now on to the rs3m shell
Here is the list of parts Im using
Atlas
GP7 long hood - its going to be reworked because I could not find a gp9 hood anywhere at a decent price.
Horn
gp7 grab irons
mu hoses
rs3 cab and glazing - Stewart rs3 does not come with glazing and atlas glazing wont fit.
s2-s4 handrail set
Kato rs2 handrails set
Detail associates EMD exhaust stacks and lift rings
The next group of pictures is as far as I got on the project so far.
I had to add strips of styrene around the inside of the Stewart sill to keep the atlas hood from falling through. its a tad short and narrow.
Next Ill cut off the molded on louvers grabs and fans. I'm going to repalce the louvers with Plano ones. As for the fans I don't know where to get phase 3 gp9 cooling fans.
