Im needing to turn a gp7 long hood into gp 9 by repositioning louvers for my RS3M project. I was just wondering how you liked those Plano louvers.

They are a close match, depending on which shell you are starting with. I removed all the louvers and started from scratch. so that way they all matched. The one thing I did find, is that when the clean the edges, because of the size, you get a bit of a curve that is barely noticeable, until you try and attach it, and then see they are not flat. After cleaning, filing, lie them flat, and straighten any curves at that time. Other than that, its a great way to proto match the unit and road you are modeling

Well its been a bit, work hasnt stopped, but little problems show up, lol, my machinist ( my son at college) isnt having much time to work on my frame, so I;ve gone on to plan B in the meantime. Trial and error. The fuel tank is coming from an Athearn GP35 frame, once cut off the frame, it works out to the dimensions listed in width and hieght for the short tank, it just has to be shortened, and bonus, the height and length will work out for a short tank, it just has to be narrowed. Pics to follow once I have some more luck with photobucket. The rest of the frame looks like will now be from Athearn GP38 frames, once you cut out the fuel tank, there is ample room to join the two remaining halves together with the right wheelbase, and add the underframe drop beams. A little filing on the top section and it fits right inside the GP9 hood

First shot of paint work, this unit is with the CNlines paints, after I figured out how to thin it for spraying, and then finding out how long it takes to dry afterwards. Murphy's law strikes though! After removing all the louvres, and then using Plano ones to get the correct arrangement, I find out the hard way that the Accucals roadname, is actually to long and doesnt line up between the louvres as on the prototype. I also have an sw1200rs in the works and am not happy with the yellow that microscale uses. So I think I;ll stick with the accucals. They are older, pre-1990, and are a bit stiff now, but with a little patience they seem to settle down nice along the body and curves. Still have to shade the rad shutters and fans, and then the Plano grills, and Cannor fans. The fuel tank now has the right contour, but I need to narrow it a bit. Its cut down from the tank of and Athearn GP-35. Once I get it narrowed, I;ll make a casting for the next unit.

If I can make a suggestion, is to add a layer of styrene to the bottom of the cab to take up that space under the cab. I didn't do it on my front range LW geep and I kick myself daily... Looks awesome, BTW!

The frame and striping painting is finished, and repainted the fan cover ready to install. Working on the 4th fuel tank and think I now have one that I;m happy with, and made a casting, just have to narrow it, add the guage ,etc, hopefully will have a photo this week. Been busy housecleaning and had quite afew items up on ebay, and toying around with an sw10 for cp, but that's another build.
