Thanks for the complements guys. Still waiting on the parts order, but I have a few other things in the shop to work on in the meantime. Nice overhead, it'll go well with the few top-down shots I have in the reference folder. That piping is going to be fun...

Work is progressing again: I cut down the stock P2K torpedo tube air tanks, filled and filed the open sections, drilled them out and mounted them on the roof. Some rough piping work is done, but there's still that plus some frame decals.

One or two things I had forgotten, mainly with the rather unique CP rooftop piping: Chopping down the P2K torpedo tube GP tanks (according to photos). Longer stock tanks on right, and chopped down ones on left: Basic general piping arrangement laid out, using copper wire. Also filling the empty backs of the torpedo tubes with styrene and putty for a solid look is necessary: I had drilled new holes in the roof and tanks for pieces of wire to hold the the tanks on better. Test-fit onto the roof: Scratchbuilding the side hood pipe: Completed shot of the roof: And other than a few minor things, she's basically ready to switch some cars, or pull The Canadian:

"very nice there Mr D"
Indeed!!! Especially like the steam generator exhaust... have never seen the rectangular stack like what you have modeled on your unit... am considering something like this myself if I ever decide to pursue some early diesels. Question, though: Did any other CPR hood units use the same rectangular stack?

Thanks all, you're too kind. Jerry, as delivered the CP GP9's had the standard round steam generator exhaust (but taller than normal). They were retrofitted in the late 60's with square exhausts, which they carried until losing their steam generators or being rebuilt in the 80's. No idea why the retrofit however. CP's RS10 units equipped with steam generators also had square S/G exhausts (as delivered), and the 4 Trainmasters delivered with dual S/G's had two square ones at the end of the wide short hoods (later removed and hoods narrowed). The GM & MLW F-units all had and retained the round S/G exhaust vents.

Thanks so very much for answering my question... it is great to know that other diesels also had this detail. The H24-66s with the two steam generators were very unique units but I am surprised that I have not ran across a model of these units... definitely unique and well worth modeling (if I were modeling CP I know that I would do it)!!!

Any suggestions? Dan M.

Thanks Jerry.
I've seen those shots on Ray's site.
Strange there aren't more overhead shots in general.
I always went for altitude in my photos when possible, since that's how we view our models.
