The first 2x of the 7x first batch SD80MACs are currently being worked on and unit 5001 will be wearing a special 100 Years livery to celebrate the fictional 100 years of GDRMCo.
Also, I've got a 2-8-4 and 2-10-2 (that will become a 2-10-4) in the works that will be part of the GDRMCo RHS fleet and will accompany the 4-8-8-2 cab forward in the steam fleet.

Here's a shot of the front and rear of 5001 and 5002 showing the differences between the GDRMCo SD80MACs and the Conrail SD80MACs.

gdrmco,
Just caught a whiff of this thread. I'm liking what I see.
Reading through the posts, I could not find what GDRMCo stands for. I understand Co stands for COMPANY, but what is GDRM?
It is great to see the progress and I really like the 100 year anniversary model. Nice touch.

GDRMCo. I would have to say this .. - GREAT DIVIDE RAILWAY and MINING Company or something of that nature.

I like industrial names like that. My favorite railroad name is Hammersley Iron.
A long time ago I had a freelanced railroad named Two Harbors Iron.

When we were designing the decals we found the full name didn't fit on any long hoods so we went with the 'GDRMCo. Iron Ore'. Does what it says on the tin!
Only thing is there's new coal developments (as shown on the trackplan at Pentland) so I'm not sure what lettering I'll use on the long hood. Ideas?

Well, looks like the layout will have to wait as I'll be moving into town in the coming months....

5001 and 5002 are just waiting to be weathered and will be finished. Here's some shots courtesy of Brian Kuhn. For those that are wondering, no the GDRMCo units aren't missing grab irons, they're meant to not have them. OH&S laws here in Australia requires personnel working above 2m to have a safety harness, being that it's near impossible to have a safety harness when working on a locomotive in the field the grab irons have been removed (making the units idiot proof) and any servicing required is done at the locomotive facilities via platforms and harnesses.

The pain tlines are very nice and the finish looks good.
Nice to have that typ eof prototype law. Bet you have to explain that to a lot of non Austrailian modelers.

Once or twice so far, it seems to be more something I need to explain from the start rather than be asked. As for do the real RR's here do it? Well BHP has been ordering their SD70ACes from about unit #4370 onwards without and have been slowly removing them from the others. Photo courtesy of Brian Marsh.

5001 and 5002 painted and weathered, they're the first 2 of a total of 7 in this current lot. 5001 is named 'Ironstone' after the type of rock the iron ore was first found in and 5002 is Keihin, one of the largest customers of GDRMCo iron ore.

I get ya Good news! The layout is back on but it'll be a tad smaller (2.5 decks vs 4) than the previous posted plans.
