Thanks! That Rock Island motor is a rebuilt U23B (hence the new heritage paint scheme), a straight Atlas red box model but with later-phase single-latch doors (from a B23-7) for motors built 1973 and after. It's from the second order of U23Bs, 2325-2355, built in late 1976 (the Rock went with U23Bs and B23-7s in my world instead of GP38-2s). This order of U23Bs came with Blomberg trucks from F-unit trade-ins.

Thanks for the info, it is really helpful. I guess I will just have to learn to file down my cuts to a straight edge and go from there. Modeler's Tip: A good little (cheap) tool for filing/sanding flat/straight edges are tongue depressors with a piece of sand paper glued to it. You're less likely to dig in the edges as with a file. I use the Testors' sanding films and make up 3 of them with course, medium and fine films. You have to use CA, epoxy or contact cement like GOO to glue the films down on the depressors because of the plastic backing of the sanding films. Cut an oversize piece of filmg, glue it down, then trim it even with edge of the stick. You can cut the ends to an angle for getting into tight spaces, etc., you'll find these sanding sticks very handy for lots of projects. The packs of depressors should be available at most drug stores. For smaller projects you can make up sanding sticks with wooden coffee stirrers. A couple of weeks back my other half gave me a two-pack of emery board nail files that women usual use for giving themselves a manicure. Well I wasn't to sure they'd last for any length of time so I dropped them in my toolbox and said thank you to her. Last week I started making new styrene mounting to fit Kato motors in Athearn BB frames and boy did they come in handy. I think they are cheap to so if you can find these they sure worthwhile as they have two grades of emery paper on them. Sent from my GT-I9100 using ProBoards
