Hi Folks, I am beginning construction on an Ottawa Central RS18u. This is a Custom Trains by Kaslo Resin kit. While overall a decent kit there is alot of body filler involved and such. This is an in progress shot of the rear end of the locomotive showing the gap filling done to the step wells and the numberboards. I will upload some more photos this evening. The locomotive will be riding on a LL P1K/ Hobbycraft RS18 drive with QSI sound and DCC. Stay tuned.

I am building the same kit as a CP Rail unit. does take a little filling but over all i love it. Have you bent the Stainless steel parts yet? I had so much trouble with the aftercooler part on the side

I've done a few of those Kalso loco kits. They take a little extra prep work on the shell but once your done they do turn out rather nice. Can't wait to see the progress on this one.

This is another shot of the rear end and the scratch built ditch lights that have been installed to match the front as all the Ottawa Central RS18u's had ditch lights on both ends. I have installed the dynamic brake screens, the exhaust stack screen, and the radiator fan screen ( accidently installed upside down, whoops. Unable to change as I do not want to damage the shell. fortunately is not very noticable) Since I do not know how to post more than one picture at a time I will post a shot of the front in a minute. Thank you much to kcs1967, that part number will help significantly.

This is a shot of the front so far. There is still a lot of smoothing to be done on the body filler but all the steps are installed. I am in the process of ordering a ton of aftermarket parts to replace a bunch of the details provided from Kaslo. If I only could figure out what some of the etched parts were for ...

Boy Jeff you weren't kidding about the aftercooler shroud. It came out alright but it certainly was aggravating. Did my shift at the paper mill so now that work is done I can build all evening. I will post photos later of the etched parts I'm not sure about and additional progress on the locomotive.

Hi Folks, I have had family matters to attend to but I am back with some additions to the loco. I have gotten the after cooler shroud installed and marker light brackets installed as well as some new body filler added. The locomotive guts should be here tomorrow so I hope the shell fits right as I have never been fond of or good at fooling with locomotive chassis' and prefer to leave them be unless it detracts from the locomotives' appearance. I have also ordered most of the aftermarket parts I will need to improve the detail level and finish the model.
A rundown of these parts include:
DW Pre 1980 MU hoses DA GE brake wheel DA nuts and bolt heads DA small and large sinclair antenna DA MU receptacles A Line windshield wipers Cal Scale Alco grab irons ... Thanks to kcs1967 for the pointer on this part. Cal Scale train line and signal line hoses Rail Flyer high mounted bell and bracket Highball Graphics Ottawa Central decals
Is anyone familiar with Archer 3D decals for weld lines, bolt detail, and tread plate? I want to add tread plate but dont have the tools to cut tread plate brass sheet to fit the model. Unfortunately all the tread plate sets out there seem to focus on EMD and GE units.

Hi Folks, I apologize for the lag in updates as I have had a ton on my plate as of late. Here is an updated shot. I have added almost all the grab irons ( bent by hand as the cal scale grabs were not sized properly to match the kaslo shell ), Miniatures by Eric CPR airhorn, Details West small and large sinclair antenna, Details West brake wheel, Railflyer Model Prototypes bell and bracket, as well as various etched parts that were provided witht the kit. One of the reasons I have had a lag in the updates is that there have been some major setbacks. The major one being that the LL P1K RS18 chassis with QSI sound would not fit the shell so 150 bucks down the drain and a PGE RS18 with no home, and a couple kit provided parts I damaged and am waiting for new Details West replacements to arrive. I plan on Adding Archer Models treadplate, Details west trainline hoses, mu hoses, rerailing frog, mu receptacle stands, and the uncoupling levers are almost done as well ( uncoupling levers are hand formed five piece contraptions just as the prototype). I guess I am going to shoot for a LL P1K RS11 . . . hopefully that works

Looking very nice! I am putting a atlas RS36 under mine. just have to file one little area on the front weight just a tad to fit in the cab area. I hope to see thoes uncoupling levers, they sound awsome. I have been slow on my build as well, life gets in the way.

Well here is a shot of the rear uncoupling lever. I spent several hours nashing my teeth and pulling my hair out ( oh wait I dont have any hair ) building this. Now all I have to do is recreate a second. If you can Jeff323 when you install your rs36 chassis underneath can you send or post a pic? I have a LL P1K RS11 coming now. I have a D&H altas RS36 but it has been super detailed and weathered and I didnt want to file its' chassis just to see how it fit.

I hope you haven't painted it yet. because the top of the nose arc is a bit off on the Kaslo unit, and I didn't notice it until mine was painted, and it bugs me! You can see behind my M420 the top of the RS18u nose droops more on the conductor's side of centreline. It isn't an optical illusion from the stripes, it is drooping on one side. Easy fix, but not for me

Thanks the heads up. I am doing some rework all over the thing to get a more accurate representation. I am currently slogged down with college so progress is slowed. I hope to get some new pics up soon.
