Daniel, that FP45 paint scheme is almost a dead ringer for a scheme I came up with for my school's model railroad, I even used the same model. Weird. I'll have to see if I can find a picture (it was close to my first attempts at modeling/painting).

I liked seeing some of the old school work. It was amazing what we could do with the old Athearn kits. Irv hit a home run by making a basic kit, without too much detail. This made the kit flexible to modify. It also helped that the parts were available and dirt cheap. The new parts make things much easier. I am not trying to insult what we can do now, but sometimes less is more. Most of my models have the basic details. This is because I intend to use them, and I don't want the model to be too fragile.
