Folks have to look the other way and remember that this is a cheap build. I did this build just to see what a build from 20 or so years ago would look like with some more recent detail added. I know the Rail Power Products shell has thick pilots, and is not as detailed as a P2K unit, but like I said, this is a build in keeping with the Theme of this "Cheap Build" Board. Thanks for the coments guys!

A Tisket, A Tasket, the Cheap Build Fourty Five got a Basket! And while on the subject of Cheap Builds, it's been said here that an Atlas shell will not fit on an Athearn Drive very well. The body mounts to the coupler pad just like an Atlas does, I just had to grind, shimmy, shake, swear, and shift things. Here it is, an ATLAS GP-38 on an Athearn Drive!

Would you mind posting a pic of the GP38 frame so we can see your modifications? Thanks.

Wow, I wish I could do a build that cheap and have the results you have.

Great looking model. Here's a question I haven't seen asked... What window "glass" do you use and how do you apply it? This will help me with my own N&W SD40.
Thanks, Dean Cass Clinchfield RR Straight Hollow Sub ca 1968-74

Thanks, Dean Cass Clinchfield RR Straight Hollow Sub ca 1968-74 I use evergreen clear plastic sheet and cut it with scissors. The handrails I got from Athearn's parts department.

Thank you. I will get some handrails for my RPP SD40's when I get those SD45 trucks. I got the SD40 RPP shells with the frames. All I need are those old flexicoil trucks. These SD40's will be unpowered.

I went to Athearn's website and did not see those handrails listed. I only saw RS3 and GP35 handrails....

You have to call the parts lady on the land line.

Thought so. Are the sets $6.95 like the others? I have 3 RPP shells to get them for.

Hey Randy...did you think of springing for A-Line's etched SD45 steps for this shell? I think it was $3.50 or less for the set and they sure make a difference for the little time it took me.
