EDIT: Give it a moment or two to update the servers, and the pictures will have resized to 800 pixels wide.... not sure why its taking so long to do so....
Been a LOONNG time since I had a functioning computer, folks! Sure, sure, I slapped one together and it "worked" for about a week or so, and even now I'm borrowing a computer.
So, anywho, Walther's re-released the P2K SW1200 as a DCC sound unit, and I picked up a couple for a project I've had in mind. I'd like to actually get on building a layout, and a small shelf is all I have time and money for, and I'd like to recreate the Switcher-Shortline fele the Pittsburg & Shawmut had.
So I picked up two of the PB&NE SW1200s and this is what they looked like, right out of the box:
Ever notice when disassembling a type of locomotive for the first time you'll fight with the first one for hours, and then the second just seems to pop apart nicely? After wrestling both the shells off I masked off the black, and repainted the yellow with PC Jade Green. Next up was a quick pass of the rust brush to lightly weather the underframe. This is where I stopped, packed up and took off for the club meeting. The 17 is fully lettered and sealed, which is only waiting for very light weathering on some louvers and radiator grills. The 16 is waiting for more decals to be prepared to be finished off. Number 15 was picked up tonight, and will be ready for the paintshop before work tomorrow. So, here's the Almost completed units on the club's layout:
Outside the NYA&W shop, #16 and 17 rest on the shed tracks, with ailing WCMX 12 and NYA&W Caboose #1075 rest on the back track.
A closer look at the units.
16 and 17 run with caboose 1075 south to pick up a cut of coal hoppers from the interchange.
