Okay, we are always talking about those units that have never been made (mostly HO). Let's have a little fun and see which one would be the most popular.

I have to admit that only one on this list grabs me, and that the SD50 prototype SD40X.

I guess I'd vote for the U25C, though I dont really need any of those loco's for the roads I model.

There were some rumors floating around a while back that Walthers/Proto was working on a U25C. Anyone heard anything along those lines?

C430 would be nice. It's one of those engines that I think looks like it means business.

Didnt IHC produce a cheap model of a C415? Wonder how hard it would be to make one of those presentible?

I had to go with the ALCO products, especially the C415.

Didnt IHC produce a cheap model of a C415? Wonder how hard it would be to make one of those presentible? Yup, they do make one and the casting has appeared under several brands over the years, i.e. Life Like etc. It is based on the old ATT version from many moons ago. You can judge for yourself whether you think it is worth a shot; there is a pic of it, and you can buy one for 27 Dollars from here, so it wouldn't break the bank to try it: www.hobbylinc.com/htm/ihc/ihc24003.htmFor that kind of money, I wouldn't bet on it running smoothly at low speeds, which isn't ideal for something like that, but as the basis for a mod, at least a lot of the work is already done if you wanted to make a better one. Aside from it having a combination of detail options that never appeared on a production engine, and being a cheap train-set quality loco, it has a little potential. The original had the same poor single truck drive as the rest of the Mehano engines built for AHM, Life-Like, Model Power, etc., truck mounted couplers, and overall detail quality was relatively poor. The current model has a cheap can motor and an all-wheel drive train that runs a bit better, but some details, mainly the redesigned trucks, look much worse. So, major body work, replacing most (or better all) the drive train, and replacement of almost all details, and it can be done. I've seen several done, and they came out pretty good. I have a partially complete one as well, but have been stalled for quite a while for various reasons. Didnt IHC produce a cheap model of a C415? I vote for SD39.
Since I work for a Canadian Railway, how about the big M series MLWs? A Draper Taper Bombardier/MLW/Alco would be good too.
Since Island Modelworks discontinued the SW1001, it would be another suggestion. So would the RS1325. Even though only 2 were built, it seems like a good branch line unit. Us proto freelancers could say that EMD sold more.

I'd vote for the BL20, I know there were only three made, but they're a unique units.

Since this poll was from four years ago, I see the top three votes have come to fruition. Maybe time for a new poll ?

Mine is not on the list. LOL I would say a C39-8 is a unit or shell that has not been made other then older brass.

Athearn had a poll on Facebook about what we'd like to see. I asked why they keep making the same model as someone else. A good example is the ES44AC. Intermountain made it. As a CP employee, I have pretty good knowledge about them. They have placed several orders.
Intermountain did the first order, the low 8700 class. Athearn did the same ones. Why couldn't they have done some of the successive batches. The main difference is the first order had steerable trucks. All the rest have rollerblades. There have been car body changes too. The last two orders, the 8900, and 9300 classes have a new type of handrail stanchions.
How many more GP38-2s can the market bear? Atlas has stuck its neck out with the GP39-2, and various Alcoa. There weren't many RS32s. Bowser should be commended on the big C series Alcoa, and even though we have a glut of SD40-2s, they did the unique Canadian versions. This makes sense, since CP was one of the largest purchasers. CP seems to be a popular road to model too.
