Thanks for your kind words, Mark. Yes, indeed, I had noticed the pilot plate variance, and when I have finished my modifications, they will come closer to the prototype (not the exact dimensions, mind you, but very close, and the overall effect should be pleasing to the most discerning eye!)

Here is another view of the pilot plate made while testing the fit of the front handrails. At this point, I have also modified the profile of the lower section of the pilot plate at the bottom step to better represent the prototype.

wow, that pilot came out really nice. I think that NWSL chopper is one thing I'm gonna buy. I've been saying for a while I can figure out a way... to cut straight -doesn't work. We can see from your example it's worth it.

Robert,
What happened to all the photos? Your modeling is fantastic!
It was mentioned that you did a tutorial on how you built all your plumbing fixtures. Is this true and where can I find it?

OK, I received another picture of the 702 the other day, and I discovered that the tool box I built underneath the frame was not correct. I originally built it as a single unit, and it was actually two separate boxes, one on each side. S-o-o-o, here is the new version! Now, I can get back to working on the trucks!

See Robert, that is the true sign that you have a problem, only you would have known that the tool box was incorrect but you went back and changed it to match the prototype, its a horrible horrible disease......Good job!

Some progress to report. The stock SD35 trucks were not correct for the build, s-o-o-o.... I decided to convert a set of Athearn side frames I had in the parts bin to fit the Atlas truck assembly. I started by trimming off the Athearn mounting pins, marking the side frame for the new mounting pins. Added the mounting pins (made from styrene stock) and modified the brake shoe hangers to clear the pick-up plate. I filed down the hanger brackets to make the final adjustments for fitting the copper pick-up plate. and I added the brake cylinder piping ( a la Brian Banna style, altho I still need to add the sanding pipe brackets and hoses). Once I get both sets of trucks completed, I will make the cab modifications and reserve a space in the paint shop.

The C&G SD28's were equipped with strobe lights on the cab roof and to add this feature, I had to go outside my regular sources to come up with what looked right. These are Herpa-MiniTanks warning lights and are just the ticket ( and a tip o' the Diesel Detailer cap to our friend Kai - csxt, for pointing me in the right direction). I needed to raise the base to get the lights the right height, so I punched circles from .015" styrene and cemented them to the Herpa base. I attached the bases to the cab and made a test fit of the lenses. While I was at it, I fitted the other goodies to make sure everything looked right. Modifying the cab interior will be the next step.
