Hi Guys! Just thought I'd post a picture of my first locomotive project since 1978. A CN RS18. I started by painting the railings and grabs white where they needed to be and painted the trucks and fuel tank a greyish black. I'm going to seal itup with a semi-gloss clearcoat and start weathering Cheers! Doug Attachments:

Looks good. That's the Hobbycraft/Proto 1000 CN RS18, and by the number, it's from the CN Rail Hauler set (I had one, that's how I knew).

Yep! Thats the one. I was able to get the set on the cheap so I couldn,t resist. The engine is nice enough and there is a good CN Boxcar with it but the rest of the stuff is, well shall we say, a challenge. I don't knowabout the caboose though. Is it a type CN used? The gondola also looks to be more at home with some 1920's steam than with this era of equipment. As I,m pretty new getting back into the hobby after so long, I'm still doing a LOT of google searching on each project.

You got the set cheap? How cheap? I'd like to get another RS18.
The caboose is totally incorrect for CN. It's a Proto 2000 Northeastern caboose minus the interior and decorated in Canadian colors. It's correct for railroads like the Reading, the Lehigh and New England, Conrail, and others in the Northeastern region of the USA. It is, however, correct for Devco Railway in Cape Breton, and that's how I've done mine, to go along with the RS27 I'm painting up.
The gon is a drop-bottom wood-composite job that appears to date back to World War 1, but CN kept ancient equipment around for a LONG time so you could even weather it heavily for a 1980's era train.
Did you get one of the Thrall All-Door boxcars? They're nicely done, not as nice as the Walthers cars but very serviceable. I have over 20 of the Proto 1000 cars in my fleet.

Hi Kris!
Actually, I REALLY lucked out with this set. A pal of mine owns a local hobby store here and ordered this set and two other N scale ones (the yardmaster sets with a CN and CP switcher) and they never sold. He eventually sold the Railhauler set to me for 80 bucks and the N scale sets I picked up off of him for 50 bucks each no tax! so all in all not a bad little deal. I did get the thrall door boxcar and agree it's a nice car. Going to do a nice little detail job on that one!
Cheers!
Doug
