where'd the control stand and interior details come from?

Kris, the cab details came from the Keystone kit, however I added the brake valve and throttle stand handles. What is not yet installed is the water cooler (the kind with the gallon jug on top). It is a modified Pullman Products passenger car water cooler. It will be added after the cab is painted.

ahh--I was wondering if Keystone was still around producing stuff. that's a fantastic looking cab! You've done good work...Did you have to give up powering that truck to get the full cab efffect?
Remember to fill the water cooler with Segram's instead of water, like the railroaders I used to work with in Cincinnati did when they switched the distillery there!
I was told a story about an engineer who started out switching just fine, but by the time they got 1/2 way through the switching, he stopped entirely. The irate conductor (as all conductors were in those days) trudged back to the engine to see what the deal was--it turned out the engineer had passed out drunk at the throttle....this was in the 1970's so it's way before my time, and all the guilty parties are dead or retired. Still, it's a wonder more incidents didn't occur!

Yes, Kris, I had to eliminate the rear truck drive, but kept the electrical connection. Tests show it can still handle 12 cars without stalling (it is the older Athearn drive with the cast metal flywheel). The Keystone set works really well with the Cannon cab. I had to add a seat on the brakeman's side (scratchbuilt), along with a couple other touches, but I am pleased with the overall effect.
We kept vodka in our water jugs (looks like water, smells like diesel). We tried Everclear, but could not make it out of the roundhouse on those days!
Thanks for the kind words.
Robert

Very nice work. I did a couple of Western Maryland SD40's for a guy back in the day and used the Kestone interior kits. Easy to build and looked nice

WOW!!!! That's a briliant project going on here. Is the hood old Athearn "Bluebox" or a later scale width hood as it looks narrower than the old Athearn? The Keystone cab interior really completes what otherwise is just empty... Love the IC/ICG orange & white era. Thanks. Pete

Thank you for your kind words, Pete. Yes, the hood shell is an old Athearn blue box version, probably from the 1970's. I am still hung up on doing the hood door handles correctly, so progress is stalled for now. It will be painted in the orange & white scheme, and lettered for the Illinois Central. I operated many of this class of switcher while working in the Memphis Terminal in the mid 1980's, so it is special to me. More to come!

Ever make it into paint nice looking build. Thanks, Vince. No, it is still unfinished. Stalled over how the details should be done (hood door handles, end railing, etc.). Hopefully, inspiration from someone else will do the trick!

Does it use the knuckle buster latches or does it have the handle like on the cab doors Robert.

Does it use the knuckle buster latches or does it have the handle like on the cab doors Robert. They are similar to the door handle, but are "D" shaped, with a padlock staple and eye at the bottom portion of the handle.
