I've finally added made video footage of the GP39E's this afternoon. You can now see the two locos over on You Tube I have tried to disguise the 1930's nature of Sweethome Chicago as best as I could, with some strategically-placed freight cars hiding model A Fords and Mac trucks. I'm sure I didn't catch them all, though. I will eventually fit a Tsunami to #2917 as and when finances permit. I am very impressed with the Tsunami diesel decoders thus far Jon PS the odd noise about 3 minutes in, is one of the cats purring - grrrr!

Very nice Jon,
Now for the turbo question... yes, Alex is right. The rebuild was as follows: (short story) 567 block retained, 645 top, ie. heads ect. installed as well as the same turbo charger found in GP/SD40s. Newer and more powerful traction motors were installed, but I forget the model number. Also new electronics were installed but I don't remember if they were -2 tech... I think they would have called these -2s if so. These were made to be on par with GP39-2s and were regarded as brand new when done.
The newer stlye cab was installed some on the GP30s because BN aquired a few from Southern RR. BN wouldn't have the high nose. EMD, doing the work on those units stated it would be least expensive and time consuming to just install a whole new nose. I have 2 of those 'chop nose' GP39e units in progress on a timeline similar to your 5 year plan. lol... I really gotta get moving on those. So, did you install the 645 turbo Tsunami? That would be the pick for this loco.

This post is over a year old... I don't know if Jon has visited the forum in some time.

Thanks for the information, Diesel. I've been a bit lax with my diesel projects while getting a layout together to run them on. I'm slowly getting there I realised after taking the photo of the GP38-2 that I'd forgotten to add the small CSX logo back onto the nose after moving the light. Jon

Hi John & all members. Great modeling mate. Your paint is fantastic. The weathering on your models is Brilliant. I must say Absoluteley 1st class modeling. Love those BN rebuilt GP30 & GP35's. More info about the prototype loco's if your interested is as follows An excellent article about the prototype GP39E/M/V's was published in the magazine "DIESEL ERA" Volume 19 #4 ( July/Aug 2008). This magazine if your not familiar with it is published by "WITHERS PUBLISHING" from USA I was going to try posting the link to the actual cover photo of this exact magazine but the link is too long. Sorry. Maybe another modeler on this Great forum site can post you an easier link. You probably know already that the prototype loco's were rebuilt as such. E= EMD. M=Morrison Knudsen., & V= VMV enterprises. The latter operates form the former Illinois Central/ICG rebuild shops in Paducah Kentucky. Anyway your modeling has given me pleasure in viewing your models & adding a little prototype info. This research is another part of the hobby i thoroughly enjoy also. Many Thanks. Pete H. Australia
