This is one of my favorite builds. I first got the bug to build this several years ago by seeing an article in a magazine, then I saw Gordon Cannon's model (wow). I do not have Mr. Cannon's skills so I split the difference. P2K chassis and side sill from a GP18. Built up sides, and a SV dynamic brake section (it's close enough)

Yeah, that's a really nice job! Thats one cool EMD concept. Did any railroad actually order any?

If you find any be sure to let us know!! ;D ;D The BL20-2 was offered by EMD from 1992-1995, but with no buyers. There were only 3 demo's ever built. I have found a couple of magazine articles. The first was in Diesel Era, Volume:3 #5 issue and the second was a modeling article in the March 1997 issue of MR.

Here is one three built EMDX 120, 121, 122 looking further I doubt CB&Q and NP could have really had them, unless there is a shot of the demonstrators being lashed together, all photo I have found have them as Demonstrators, or one of two other schemes here is a link to the examples rrpicturearchives.net/locoList.aspx?mid=374

Justin, I was being a Smart-Arse about the CB&Q and NP having any of these units. Seeing as both of these RR's had been gone for over 20 years before EMD cataloged the BL20-2.

When these were in Oregon my friend and I got a complete set of detail shots of these units including roof shots =)
We sent them all to Gordan to help him with his details. Sadly he passed away about a month after my friend sent him the pictures.

They did, however, run on the old CB&Q tracks. I remember them running on the BN at Eola yard in Illinois in the early to mid 90's. John

I believe RailAmerica owns them now. I heard one was down on the SJVR and one was up in Washington?? Not sure what their current status is with them buying GP20D's

The info I was going off, one of photos list the serial number of 19618, this serial number listed as GP 9 CBQ 279, then it became BN obviously, perhaps the serial number is incorrect, does anyone know if these were orginal frames or were they rebuilds.

That makes perfect sense now. These engines were a test bed by EMD for a rebuild program using worn out GP7/9's as a starting point. They must have started with an ex CB&Q GP9. Obviously, it wasn't a success, since no one ordered any.
