Mike, you're right about the paint separation. I think they experimented on the SD7's to some degree. I've seen pictures of a few units with various separation lines ranging from the bottom of the radiator grilles to the bottom of the window frame and anywhere in between. If i do another SD7 I'll probably pick one with the more traditional separation at the window so this unit stands out even more.
I called Walthers and they have SD7 handrail sets available for purchase from the latest release so I'm going to place an order for a set. That will solve that problem.
I've got a little more decaling to do and final assembly (ladders, windows, etc), and the frame to shorten still and this one will be done.

I dont know why but I felt a sense of urgency to finish this project today, so after my son went to bed I finished tapping the couplers and did the final assembly. I guess I wrapped it up today for Randy......its not a high hood in the sense he liked but its as close as I come with my railroad. I may end up redoing the number boards, I'm not happy with how small the lettering turned out. Otherwise it looks pretty good I think. Like the rest of my recently completed models it needs weathering still. This one does have a decoder installed and all the lighting, which for this unit is just directional headlights. Took a long time to get here but I'm really happy with how it turned out. I think Randy would have liked these. Now its time to go run them on the switching layout for a while!

Mike, great job. I like the model turned out. I like the LL SD7/9 except for the coupler pockets. The way the coupler box sticks out just eats me up. Maybe a little weathering to finish it off unless this is to represent a new engine. Now I need to finish some of mine lol. Thanks for sharing.
