Hi Rudy,
That is one sweet looking unit. What paints did you use on this build? I really like the look of your DGLE and under frame. Plus where did you get the PRSL decals from?

Erik DGLE is Scalecoat II. Underframe is Testors flat black from a rattle can. PRSL logos came from Champ, right before they closed their doors and had that big blowout sale. Numbers and "F" came from a Microscale PRR set, and the builder's plate is also from a Microscale set. Numberboards will come from a Shellscale set, once I get them on.

FINALLY DONE! (look at when I started this thread - I got this locomotive for Christmas in 2009!) I picked #2003 because that's the locomotive that is currently in service on the SMS Rail Lines in Bridgeport, NJ - which I've seen in person and have a particular affection for. Just a quick note - if I were to do the extended cab front again, I would use two Atlas cabs rather than two Cannon cabs. The cut front wall of the Cannon cab hurts the thin walls' already flimsy structural integrity, and I have had to repair this cab numerous times during the painting and weathering process as joints cracked or broke or spread. I think the Atlas cab would hold up much better and wouldn't really detract from the overall look of the completed locomotive.

Very nice work! Thanks for your comment on the flimsiness of the extended Cannon cab. These cabs are on most of the EMD fleet for my freelanced road.

There is nothing that can be done except that Rudy Garbely can come back and post his shots at a new picture host. Photobucket dumped its successful business philosophy for one that requires a huge cost to use their service so only Rudy moving his shots to something that will host them at a reasonable cost will be the only way photos can be restored. Shame really... this was a really good thread with plenty of great detail shots.
Rudy where are you???

Been working on one of these myself, doing up one of the four Penn Central "Midland's", the 4 GP38s (7904-7907) assigned to Crucible Steel in Midland,PA.

Everybody must be interested in these PC oddballs, I've been getting stuff together to build a unit in the 7815-7824 for a friend. They seemed to be regulars on the old GR&I line from photos online.

Per the PCRRHS's "Penn Central Post" issue 16-2 which had an article on PC's GP38s that group of GP38s were specifically ordered for service on the road's Michigan lines. Also there's a couple of nice pics of one in Mackinaw City in Morning Sun's "Penn Central Power in Color" Volume 3.

I just read that photobucket in May finally fired the dope who made the decision to render the company useless. Now I can see the pics! Also note- 2003 was the only one of the 10 that made it into CR blue. A good model either way. Thanks for sharing.
