I was searching to see if any Penn Central equipment had made it into Conrail in either PRR or NYC colors... what I came up with was "not exactly". It appears that S2 #9814 ran for at least a year or two into Conrail with its PRR lettering and Brunswick Green bleeding through the PC paint on the hood. Now, being that it is not only a really cool paint job, but an ALCo, it means it HAD to be modeled. This is an old 1980's Atlas engine without any real modifications, other than an extension on the stack and cab sunshades. I didn't really bother doing any detailing on this, because the standout is supposed to be the paint job, not the details. She still needs a finishing dullcote, handrails, and the guts put back into her. The prototype:

I was searching to see if any Penn Central equipment had made it into Conrail in either PRR or NYC colors I know there was an F unit that Conrail recieved still in PRR colors, Unfortunatly I dont know of any photos of it or even what the number was. BTW, I was living in Terre Haute around 1990, and I remember seeing a pure PRR cyl. covered hopper. P

For some reason I can't get the picture to show up, so I just put the link in. Sorry.

Rudy, on the first prototype photo that you posted, it looks like that blue tank is sitting on the top of the hood, lol.

My dad said the same thing when he saw the picture. ;D Is this the one that later got painted into CR blue but never got a can opener? EDIT: Nevermind, that was #9846: rr-fallenflags.org/cr/cr9846ags.jpg

I believe that 9844 and 9846 were the only ones that got blue paint, but I do not think they ever got the can opener logo; just the CR.

I think it looks really good. I am a big fan of the "fade through" paint jobs. I have a photo (slide) of a PC worm fading through the "Conrail" nose paint on a GP38-2....from 5 years ago!

I know it's been almost a year since I touched this last, but I'm working on final assembly (finally, and with the help of my dad) and this locomotive should be done by the end of the day today. Stay tuned!!!!

Okay, so..... I dug this out after almost a year and decided to finish final assembly. I had no idea how to get the motor assembly back together, and I'd broken a few of the pegs in the truck sideframes that held the wheel pickup strips. My dad stepped in yesterday with some tiny screws and a Dremel and somehow got the electrical stuff sorted out. And another big thanks to my dad, who, in my moment of panic and frustration, figured out that I had the motor upside down and was shorting out the whole layout. I bring you, after almost a year of waiting..... PC #9814!!!

Nice work, but you forgot that giant blue rooftop air reservoir that Conrail added in the 1977 photo On the topic of S2's with an identiy crisis, EL had that S2 that had a BLW cab, can't think of the road number offhand.
