Has anyone ever converted a Kato SD38-2 into a correct Frisco model? What parts did you use? Pix?

I have not built a Frisco SD38-2. But, after a quick search, 296 & 297 were built with Dynamics. 298 & 299 without. 296 & 297 were assigned to Tulsa. The others Memphis. All had triple clasp HTC trucks. That was just a quick Google search.

Late production units, so they have the 88" nose with brake wheel, corrugated radiator grills, beveled air filter box. So in other words, Cannon and Company parts. Replacement of Katos oversized add on parts will also greatly improve it.
Be nice if Kato would do another run, I'd like to do a few and a couple of Canadian units.

<snip> Be nice if Kato would do another run, I'd like to do a few and a couple of Canadian units. Agreed. However in multiple conversations with Kato employees it is safe to say it will be some time, if ever, that they do more HO 38-2s. The US side of the company is in favor of them, but the Japan side decides. The delay in Intermountain hitting the streets with theirs opens the door for the possibility but Kato seems reluctant to do it. There are several significant users they didn't do in the first run that would sell. FRISCO, BN, BNSF, SP, and CIM to name a few.

Sad thing is i provided kato with a copy of the sd38-2 blueprints that EMD sent me.
Hoping they would do the n scale version at the time when i was in N.

Here's a former FRISCO unit in Galesburg's yard. The "FRISCO" text is starting to reappear through the green paint. The walkways seem to be more orange than any other color. The photo is from about 15 years ago, might offer some information on their general appearance. Of course, BN or BNSF has had time to modify things. Lyle D

One of her sister units is working the hump at Oklahoma City as of yesterday when I passed by Flynn Yard.
