Started adding side posts using Evergreen 0.030x0.040 strip styrene. The posts are on scale 27" centers except for the outer two which are 24" apart.

That’s awesome I just bought a set. i got an email from exactrail today and they have the Berwick boxcar on sale which looks very similar to the CN car other than the doors.

I don't think that would work. That looks like a 60 foot, hi-cube car. The prototype is 50 foot standard height car. Someone close to the top of the thread suggested a Cannon and Co. kit that looks like a dead ringer. I would recommend starting there, unless you can find something else suitable to hack up like I did.

I got one of the man doors installed. I used Pikestuff 541-1102 Personnel Doors cut down to size, because they are too big as they come. I used 0.020x0.030 stryene for the doorframe and the rib along the bottom of the side posts.

Hole in the roof for the exhaust stack Here is the stack. I liked how the one from my first attempt turned out so I'm just going to re-use it. It was scratchbuilt from various shapes of styrene.

I'm jumping in too... (just #9 unfinished project on my workbench, but still) I got the leds and strobes, then I sure have brass for detailing. As I got confirmation from Jim (Highball Graphics) that he had decals readily available (and home now), temptation was too strong. This is what I will be using as box:
I won't contaminate your post, but if you allow, I may post a picture of mine, once finished. I'll put this project on a fast track, as it will be great for operation sessions, instead of a caboose.
Good luck with yours. I'm taking the lazy way, but your dedication to details looks promising.
