Just finished up detailing, populating and lighting some 'heritage' cars for my layout. Now moving on to a Superliner equipped train. One thing I would like to add on the Superliner cars are the little lights along the doors showing door position. Not too noticeable, but a nice touch, in my opinion, especially when doing night running. They are very noticeable on the prototype at night. Here is a link to a pic of them - not too obvious since the photo was taken in daylight. upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/a/ae/Amtrak_Sunset_East.jpg/1200px-Amtrak_Sunset_East.jpgI am thinking of an 0402 SMD LED, located behind the body, and a small section of fiber optic to carry the light through the shell. But would love to hear from others who have maybe done this and what did or did not work for them. Thanks in advance! Detlef

Slight correction for ya. They're not door indicators, at least not anymore if they ever were.
They're actually brake indicator lights, which you can watch change from green (released) to yellow (applied) any time there's a brake reduction of more than about 15lbs. Sometimes you'll see some yellow and green at a station stop, but that's just because they're not sensitive enough below a certain threshold.
