I'd say with the past experience your C&S has with GE they'd likely offer a competitive package (locomotives and servicing) vs the EMD of the time. B40-8s and C40-8s over GP/SD60s seems more likely imo.
CNW long bought EMDs but got in big on GEs for coal so there's precedence.

Great on idea on the Dash 8s in testing! I'll include them and say that tests have been successful and that the C&S will be taking an order for more the following year. Sort of reminds me of the 3 standard cab SD60s that Burlington Northern ran for a while.

The greatest part of proto-freelancing is you get to create the story. That is what draws me to it. And the story needs to have substance.
You have a nice concept and scenario.

Thanks! I agree, it's a fun challenge to do things your own way and still make it plausible at the same time.

Love this dialog! I also model a variation of the C&S - as the story goes, the narrow gauge portion of the old C&S South Park line was bought up and standard-gauged. Anyway, a variation of these paint schemes that always has crossed my mind is taking the Wisconsin & Southern scheme and adapting it to the Colorado & Southern. Story could be the Colorado and Southern (CSOR?) would be part of the "family lines" holding company of railroads, similar to the Genesee & Wyoming family of railroads, all sharing a similar paint scheme. Look up some of the photos of the WSOR on line, and imagine the word "Wisconsin" traded out for "Colorado." I think it would look great. I have 2 WSOR F45s in WSOR paint that I am considering for relettering into just such a scheme.

That's actually a really great idea! A modern shortline serving remote mines in the mountains, grain elevators in the valleys, and various industries in the urban areas....along with plenty of interchange action between the Union Pacific and BNSF.....perhaps even an excursion operation.....heck, I could just lose focus and follow that idea lol. Very creative, thanks for sharing!
