Here is my latest, just before it went to the paint shop. I have been working on this for awhile, using one of our friend Bob Harpe's past clinics as a guide, and now with his meet in Savannah coming up this weekend I'm running around like a mad man trying to get it done. For those not familiar with the prototype, Southern had a fleet of GP38's with short 1,700 fuel tanks to help cut down on weight for use on light rail branchlines. Most received 3,000 gallon tanks from retired SD35's after the coming of NS, but 2748 was one of the ones that made it into NS paint before the refit. Bob and Dan Bourque have done these painted for Southern, so I thought I would be a little different and go with NS, LOL. Sorry the pictures aren't better; I was rushing to take them and get to painting... ;D

Nice work, but that is just wrong painting it for NS. If you send it to me, I can remedy the NS issue. lol

LOL! Thanks Andrew...I thought long and hard about whether to paint it Southern or NS, and since Bob should have his "shorty" in Savannah, I thought I should be different...fear not, I have an SD40-2, a U23B, an F7, and an SD35 either on the bench or on deck to be started on and all will have the proper tuxedo scheme

With NS, at least you don't have to worry about window gaskets.........besides, 13D black is a good thing. ;D

Well, got it covered in black and have started applying decals ( gotta love those fast-drying acrylics ;D ) ...I sure do like Shellscale's NS decals for their accuracy of font, etc, but MAN are they thin and easy to tear...ask me how I know....

Whoa, that is sweet, great job Chuck, I must be in the minority wanting to see it in NS paint.

Thanks for the kind ones everyone...worked on decals and yellow on handrails and step edges today; sadly don't think I'm going to be done before the meet in Savannah on Friday, but I'm going to take it anyway. I think my next NS loco will be an SD60...I'm dying to do something that will give me an excuse to use the new "whiteface/horsehead" decals

Hey Chuck,
Looks good, but I'd much rather see it in a Tux vs the all black scheme:-) Is that one of the frames I milled - I did so many I can't remember whose all I did? Make sure to say hello to everyone, and tell Tony Sissons to have another beer on me. Ask him if he remembers Natty Green's? (We went there several times last years meet in NC)
Hope the meet goes well, and make sure you take lots of photos to post, tell Frank Greene to take a bunch too - he shoots nice pics.
Wish I was gonna be there, but I'll be in Mt. Pleasant MI this weekend playing trains with my club, so at least I'll be able to run the silver off a few sets of wheels. Maybe even drag out my Southern equipement for a few miles....
Best to ya! Brian

Ugh. Natty Greens. No offense but how many times did we eat there in that weekend? Haha.

Hey Chuck, is the 2748 in paint yet??? Scott, Yep, got it in paint and pretty much finished except for plumbing the air tanks ( waiting on a set of air filters from Railflyer) and doing some more weathering...I was literally putting the finishing touches on it 11 PM on Friday night and headed to Savannah, GA for Bob Harpe's meet the next morning. Took some pictures of it at the meet but got in late last night and have to work a 24 hour shift at the fire department today, so hope to get pics up tomorrow...BTW while in Savannah picked up every part Cannon makes for an SD60 in anticipation of starting NS "Horsehead" #6619 this week.

Okie doke guys, finally have them posted: As predicated the Good Mr Harpe poked at me for taking a perfectly good subject from one of his clinics and applying The "Norfolk Nag" to it instead of tuxedo stripes, LOL ;D

Good ol' Natty Green's. Good food and good beer. The model looks good Chuck. I'll probably do a couple, one in Southern and one in NS. Wish I could have made it down to Savannah this year but I ran into a little car trouble. It seems my car doesn't take to kindly to running over construction debris on the interstate.
