I'm continuing the work on my 1:48 Conrail GP38-2's. The CR Geeps I am modeling both had 2200 gallon fuel tanks. I am not exactly sure where I should mount the tank on the frame in regards to the center line of the frame length wise.
Can anyone lead me in the correct direction?
Thanks,
Patrick

Based on the drawing for CR 8020-8255 from the Trainiax website, the fuel tank is drawn as a 2600 gallon tank.
Pulled into autocad, the tank scales to 10'-10" from the front bolster to the front face of the tank. Then 13'-0" for the tank, and then 10'-2" from rear face of tank to the rear bolster, +/-.5".
Front pilot face to front of tank = 21'-4". Rear face of tank to face of rear pilot = 20'-8".
From the Conrail Cyclopedia website, the Conrail gp's had 2600 gallon tanks, so I don't know if that 2200 gallon figure is a typo or the engines were fitted with a smaller tank later?
Hope that helps.
Did you decide whether to go to the Cleveland show next month. I'm in, unless I end up with a family emergency. Jim

Oops, you are correct 2600 gallon. Must have been huffing too many adhesive fumes
This is the exact information I needed, I appreciate it! Im using the Weaver tank to build off from. Its a 2600 gallon and measures 13'.
As far as Cleveland, It looks like I have everywhere booked until mid November so sadly I wont be able to attend unless I can get a break from work.
Take care Patrick

I think the Trainiax drawings are reasonably accurate. This one appears to be from his later work, which is supposed to be the most accurate. However, I'd probably just double check against a photo of the unit. In the drawing, the front of the fuel tank is just behind the second stanchion behind the cab on the conductor side. Photos can corroborate if that's right.
I haven't been to the Cleveland show before. We'll see how it goes. I went to the Indy meet last month and was somewhat underwhelmed. A lot of the same guys (and boxes on the table) as the March Meet, but a lot smaller. I still managed to walk out with a couple of items though. I'm patiently waiting for next March for any real hope of finding the stuff I "need".

Yep, It looks like it lines up well with the 2nd stanchion but I didn't have a measurement for that stanchion either. I went to the Indy show over 5 years ago and I've pretty much decided to just hold on and wait for Chicago and make a nice 2 day weekend out of it. Nowadays, Im just looking for detail parts anymore. I have all the freight equipment I need but still needs to be converted to P48.
