Although highly unsuccessfull I have a certain affectness for Kraus-Maffei's (failed) attempt to enter the high-horsepower market in the US. Rivarossi's long-lived model and Division Point high-priced new models proofing that I'm not alone with this feeling. I'd like to have a big model of that kind, prefering the headlight configuration of DRGW's units. So, working in 1/11.3 scale (correct for 5"-tracks gauge) I had to start with a few steel tubes, some foam, fiber board and plywood. It seems that all my models have an ugly look at birth Ok, after a visual shock further modifications eased my concernings by leading to a more prototypical look A comparison to Rivarossi's H0-model Powered with two 350W-motors running on 36V And a look into the unvarnished face And the start of the shell's paint job Status three years ago - nothing changed regarding the trucks since then but it's my every intention to finish the trucks this year Maybe I'll repaint the non-skidding area on the nose - it should be more greyish Regards Norman

Outstanding modeling Norm! You are killin these large scale ugly ducklings. I would love to see you build a modern locomotive like a SD70ACE.
