Hello all, It's been a while since I have posted anything. A while back I created a freelanced railroad named the North Florida Railroad. I really enjoyed doing it but I wanted to create something new so i have come up with the Southern Atlantic Seaboard Railroad. The name comes from my favorite railroads. Southern, Atlantic Coast Line and Seaboard Air Line. A backstory will soon be coming but I wanted to get everyone's opinions about the paint scheme and the layout idea. Here is the paint scheme that I have come up with: Most of the power that will be seen on the layout are GP's and small SD's and various Switchers. The layout itself will be a switching layout. I have based the layout on the Jacksonville Terminal area. If you are not familier with this area, the Jacksonville Terminal was the busiest stations in the South during the Florida land boom in the 30's through the 50's. There is harly anything left of this era except the Jacksonville Terminal itself. I found a track plan from 1960ish and wanted to model the area where the freight house was located. This will be a modern layout as if the city would have left all the buildings. This is kinda like the past meets the present layout. Lots of older buildings with newer structure around. Here is the original track plan that I'm modeling: Here is the track plan that I have designed. It kinda takes the same life as what above with a couple improvements to make it more interesting: Please let me know if there is anything that could be changed to make this layout better. Your questions, concerns, and ideas are welcome. Thanks, John

Hello John, Interesting that you chose this name for your freelance railroad. I also model the same three roads, and boy do great minds think alike, as my railroad is also the Southern Atlantic Seaboard charted April 1, 2012. I have a certificate of charter from Railroad Model Craftsman magazine with this date. By the way, I like your paint scheme. I haven't come up with one yet for mine, I still run the three different road's colors together representing a fictitious merger with no repaints yet.

How do you get a Certificate of Charter? There was something in the magazine about registering your model railroad. I sent it in and they sent me a certificate. Since my last post I have decided on a paint scheme for my Southern Atlantic Seaboard. This will be for EMD F units which my railroad is predominantly made up of. Main body: Southern Green Stripe (similar to SAL stripe): Silver w/Orange edge Roof: Black Lettering: Seaboard Yellow (in Seaboard font) Here is the first unit in my new scheme:

My prototype had GP7's painted like this and I've been debating about freelancing some F-units. This just shows how good they would look!! Here's my GP7 painted by another member on the board here.

John, your paint scheme is really good looking. My only input would be to condiser making the roadname lettering larger, maybe 1-1/2 to 2 times the size it is now. Otherwise it is a real classic paint scheme.

Looks and sounds great! What kind of GPs and SDs will you be running?
