I have 3 CSX projects in the works, 1 ex-CR gp40-2 and 2 gp38-2s I've started on #2738, so far I've added a round vent to the nose and painted it grey, painted over the top right corner of the "C" in CSX on the hood, added pilot details (plows & hoses), moved the grab irons to the conductors side of the nose (will be adding a signal box) added a vent on the cab roof and painted the roof white, re-decaled the numbers on the engineer side cab off centered and added a vent, added the faded paint/light blue spot on the battery box, sun shade on engineers side, windshield wipers, and American flag and various warning decals..

I had a Proto 2000 gp38-2 in seaboard system paint laying around and wasn't sure what I was going to do with it. I searched rr picture achive and found a CSX gp38-2 that lasted into 2008 in seaboard livery. I'm skipping over my earlier projects and will start on this.

So far plated the headlight in the cab, added the correct horn and bell on the hood, painted the roof white, mismatched the front number board fonts, painted the pilots black and added a few pilot details and painted a yellow door on the rear of the hood.

I've been thinking about painting a CSX gp40-2 in yn3 paint scheme. I bought tru color paint tcp-290 yn3 yellow and microscale CSX diesel decal sheet 87-1180. Together the yellow goldish color is a great match but I've set my sights on modeling CSX 6156 and I'm not sure the darker yellow paint and decals match. Does anyone know if its accurate to use this paint and decal sheet?

Love the 2667!
I especially like the mis-matched number boards and the weathering.
One question: You didn't blank the class lights, was this oversight, or just personal preference? Regardless, this is one of the nicest models I've seen in awhile.

Thanks guys, the class lights were slightly an oversight. I knew I had to do them but I didn't want to ruin the factory paint with sanding or with an x-acto blade. I was already having trouble matching the paint for the plated headlight in the cab and the hood mounted bell. I guess I could always go back and glue on some circular shape styrene if I wanted to. I don't have a lot of projects left on deck. Aside from that ex conrail gp40 I have a gp38-2, possibly an sd40-2 and this gp40-2. I'll probably get some hate for this but I'm going to take this chessie gp40 and give it a yn3 paint job. It already has the correct front and rear plows, radiator grilles, anti climber and mail slot battery box for Csx 6156.

Heh- On the rear, you wouldn't need to worry about paint match, the blanks are as badly weathered as other places! On the front, looks like they welded square plates over the holes, and the paint isn't a perfect match their, either. Keep us posted on the 6156. Was the spare coupler knuckle box an Atlas detail, or someone else's aftermarket part?

The seaboard system gp38-2 is a proto 2000 model, the spare knuckle pocket is details west part #196.

Might not be a deal breaker but the C&O 4384 is a later phase GP40-2 than the CSXT 6156 that you want to model. The CSXT 6156 was WM 4257, built 2/1977 and is a phase 2a1 GP40-2. The C&O 4384 was built 1/1980 and is a phase 2c1 GP40-2. Some of the big differences between the two units are the type of radiator fans and the exhaust housing. The large exhaust silencer with rear-mounted exhaust is present on the 4384 but not the CSXT 6156. 4384 also came with the newer Q-fans while the 6156 has the older fans. Both styles of fans and exhaust housings are, I believe, available from Cannon. If you are set on modeling the 6156, the exact model that should be a perfect match externally is the Athearn Genesis Chessie GP40-2s with strobe lights, a newer run. I think the road numbers on those units offered by Athearn were WM 4258 and WM 4261. You can refer to the table available on Trainiax if you are interested in GP40-2 phase differences. trainiax.net/mephase-emdgp40-2.php

I tracked down a WM version on eBay and will use that one instead.

I started working on #6156, applied pilot details, relocated the horn and bell and plated the class lights in the nose and gave it a coat of tru-color primer. I'm going to try to give it a few coats of yn3 blue tonight.

Those look great! I've always liked the CSX GP's since they have so many minor variations running around
