Hi, I'm actually in the process of restoring a M420 kitbash I did 15 years ago when I was a teenager. M420 was the first locomotive I ever saw as a young children and it's brutish lines always made a strong impression on me. This kitbash is nothing fancy like a Kaslo shell. In fact, it's a little bit weird to work on it while such amazing shell kits are available. It's just a modified Atlas C424 with a shortened resin comfort cab. At least, it won't cost an arm and a leg. Back then, my biggest pitfall were the ZWT truck sideframes. I scratchbuilt one but never got the nerve to finish it. I'd like to know we I could find such sideframes. I couldn't locate any (resin, 3D print, etc.). Not that I'm afraid to kitbash them, but I'd prefer to use some cast parts for the sake of solidity. In the last resort, if someone has spare parts, that could be an alternative. Just for fun, here are a few picture of the said kitbash after a bit of restoring work. It truly was in bad shape when I started working on it yesterday, trust me. And I'm still wondering if this will ever look presentable. Feels like what modellers used to do back in the 70s. Matt

Wow! That looks like a pretty ambitious project, and I'm impressed. Growing up in Connecticut, we had the P&W's M420 fleet, and back before internet, I couldn't have gotten the resin cab. Scratch building was too far ahead for me then.
I wonder if GE FB trucks could be modified, since they look similar. You could keep the double equalized trucks, and do it up for P&W

Well I think I have some Tiger Valley ZWT sideframes stashed somewhere. I may have already sold them, lemme take a look.

Sean,
If you don't have them I think I do have some and some TV Hi-AD's as well. I like seeing projects like this one.

So far the answer was quite positive. I'll let you know if the deal works or not. It really a fun project. Matt

Cool! I've not been one to go back and rebuild my "yuck of yore" models so I applaud your efforts.
I actually have a pair of the Kaslo shells that I'm excited to start once I get moved into a new house.

NICE Old School type build!! Makes me want to dig up something from 1981 that I never finished, and feel the similar shock! It's starting out pretty good. Looking forward to seeing this build!
