Hey Jonte,
Is this a sentimental piece you have that you want to upgrade? I have one like that... Anyway, I just looked through this post and noticed that you might be doing some of the underframe work. I look forward to seeing that if you do! That is one of the things I think is most difficult to model, but when all the piping and cables are there it puts the whole piece on another level. -still looks good without it, especially if it's gonna be a club runner!

I believe the frame detailing is the most fun! ... Well, on models where it's prominent. It's the part not even really done with RTRs! If they do, it's just a couple of pipes, to give you an 'idea'. Jonte sounded like this is something he'd like to go for. I wholly encourage you, and we're all here, if you have any questions!! ~ Carmine

Hi Guys and many thanks for your continued interest. I'm not worthy !
Dan, sincerest apologies for the late reply, but only just noticed your kind expression of interest while browsing. I need to pop in more often.
Yes, I am rather partial to this loco as it was my first N. American loco bought soon after my interest in railroading was sparked. I have to admit that the purchase price was what first attracted me, however, when I watched how smoothly it performed straight out of the box on its test run in the local model shop, I was smitten.
Now I'm further down the road with my railroading interest, I realise how agricultural they really are compared to many fine models that are available, but to me I still think they're an excellent model for the price, and a decent start for those looking for a project. Hurrah! for Bachmann ( usual disclaimer applies of course).
As Carmine quite correctly points out, I'm up for detailing the chassis, but how far I go depends on any latent skills I may have - which. I sincerely doubt, folks, so please don't build your hopes up.
I promise I'll do my best to please though Guys.
Fond regards,
jonte

jonte, Experience doesn't always count in... This was an earlier attempt at plastic distressing: I nearly RUINED it! ... but, if you never try, you'll never know. It did eventually get better, but everything's a learning process, regardless of experience! That looks just fine for a gon!

I appreciate that! I'm my biggest critic, and do want to "improve" the damage some...

jonte, Once you get through the initial frustration, you will find "superdetailing" a most fun venture! It's certainly very satisfying for most of us.
I mentioned elsewhere that the newer Bachmann locos are akin to the "new blue box". They're smoother running than ANY old Athearn BB loco, have decent molded shells, and even not bad added on details. And for a decent price - in a grossly overpriced market!
They're not perfect, but they make a great base for modeling.
