To lower height of fuel tank and chassis i separated hood from frame, snipped all wiring in order to properly handle the frame. I removed both trucks and fuel tank. Looking at each truck; you'll see a shim sitting across the top of each, the bolster pin on the frame goes in the holes on shim. I filed each shim down as much as possible, keeping in mind that the shims should have some rigidity for balance. I used an Emory board for the sanding. For fuel tank i laid two wood coffee stirrers lengthwise inside; one on left, one on right side and glued in place with a tiny dot of super glue gel. Both trucks and fuel tank replaced; of note that air tanks restrict maximum lowering of hood due to radial swing of trucks. This procedure took approx. 3 hours; My alco demo#2 looks fantastic, the tank rides exactly right and the height issue has been reduced to a practical minimum. I am an avid HO modeler, I've been working with trains since 1973

You know Bowser is offering re-tooled trucks to lower the ride height and a correctly shaped tank for that engine at no cost, right ?
Mark.

Thank you for letting me know! I enjoyed the modification more than waiting for bowser to send correct parts, what exactly would they send ? A new frame? Trucks without oversized bolster shim ? Yes, the existing fuel tank a bit too beefy, but I can live with that since it will look great with EL sd45-2. Now mark, do you have any info on any manufacturer interested in creating the E-44 ? Thanks, mike (pcsince73)
