Right gentlemen, Amongst buying my Milwaukee Road books (just snapped Milwaukee Road Locomotives Vol.4), I'm trying to figure out what correct parts I need to get. First '?' I have is, which is the correct snow plow for their GP9 units, this is #313 that I'm thinking about, which was a Phase III unit, if that makes any difference. My second '?' is, as you can see on her sister engine here #312, which is the correct winterization hatch to get, can you get them modified like in the pic here, for the spark arrestor or is it just a question of wee bit of cutting and sanding... Thanks in advance! Ps. I hope that this is the right place.... Railpictures.net and Craig Walker collection....

Here's a pic of another sister engine to 'my' #313, this has a slightly different winterization hatch from the #312, what they've done for the spark arrestor is offset... Source: Unknown.. Photographer: Unknown.. (if someone knows, please let me know, so that I can credit it properly..)

You would have to modify the winterization hatch, just like they did in 1:1 scale.
For the plow I would use a DW 155, unless somebody can point out a different one that is better.

That's alright, I kinda expected that, plows.....DW155 you say, excellent, better order them and a bunch of spark arrestors, thanks Mike, appreciated! Here you see, that #282 and #308(?) has the same modification done to their winterization hatches, while #312 is different... Source: Unknown Photographer: Unknown

Would Details West's winterization hatch #164 be the one to go with?

The Proto ones look nocer if you can get your hands on any. I agree on thenplow, DW-155 seems to be right.

Cheers Mike! I'm not that bothered if they're undecorated or not, can always strip them, if they're not... As long as they're a Phase III, well.....at least the Geep anyway! What is a pain in the tailpipe though, is to find a decent pic of GP9 #313, showing what style of spark arrestors she had, like the #311 or #312.... Kinda lean towards the #312, just to make it easy for myself....lol

I started with an Athearn, used the same picture you started out with, and I just wanted my old reliable to look a little more respectable. I wasn't trying to get an exact match, but something more prototypical compared to the stock Athearn. I made the hatch, not exact, but it works, Different fans, plows, front and rear, and I made the AW window. I also gave it the bandit paint patch, with lettering for my free lanced road. Mike.

Turned out nice for a quick build. What did you end up using for the winterization hatch?

Thanks, I made it from styrene and a piece of very fine screen.
Mike.
